WHY YOGA?

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that affects not only the physical body but also the mind and spirit.

The word yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning "to yoke- or join."  When practiced regularly yoga joins all aspects of the mind, body and spirit.  At  the physical level yoga gives relief from numerous ailments and strengthens the body. From the psychological standpoint a regular practice sharpens the intellect, aids concentration and steadies the emotions. The breathing techniques calm the mind. The spirit receives inner peace because the body and mind become still.

Why do we do yoga? The short answer is that yoga makes you feel good. The scientific view says yoga has been shown to decrease blood pressure and lower the level of stress hormones. Research shows that yoga:

-Improves muscle tone, flexibility and strength

-Reduces stress and tension

-Boosts self esteem

-Improves concentration

-Improves circulation

-Stimulates the immune system

-Creates a sense of calm and well being
